General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi

The symptoms can be suggestive of dermatitis.Dermatitis can occur as a result of buildup of dead skin cells, oil, sweat, and bacteria on the skin which can causes discoloration and skin plaques.

Acanthosis nigricans is similar to dermatitis and can cause dark, thick skin on the neck. The skin may have a velvety texture.

People who are obese and those with diabetes are at greater risk of the condition.

Other conditions to rule out are Lichen planus, fungal infections like Tinea versicolor.

Blood sugar levels and skin scraping testing or biopsy can identify the cause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards
