Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My neurologist prescribed this medication bc I had a lumpectomy which my cancer was from estrogen and I was experiencing many hot flashes day and night. He prescribed.1mg nightly, I do not have high blood pressure and I have been reading that is mostly the reason someone takes this medication. I would like to stop taking it, do I have to reduce doseage or can I just stop taking it?
I understand that you want to stop taking your medication prescribed to counteract high estrogen as you feel it may have been inappropriate to your condition since you do not have high blood pressure, the reason this medication is usually prescribed.
Your medication is being legally prescribed "off label" meaning it is prescribed for a condition not implicated in it's patent. Did it help your symptoms or cause aggravations as your reason for not taking it?
My advice to you regarding your question of whether you could just stop taking it is no.If it is prescribed for high blood pressure and without knowing what drug it is, I recommend tapering slowly to avoid the typical adverse effects from rapid discontinuation of anti-hypertensives.
I hope this answers your question.
