What Causes Hives All Over Body?

I have been breaking out in hives all over my body. I went to my dr and was told I had an allergic reaction to something. Along with this going on I also have a really bad cough. My chest would hurt and I would wake up coughing and itching. When I would wake up coughing I would get really hot all over my back neck and ears and cannot breath very well. I eventually calm myself down and then I can feel my body cooling.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of hives all over the body, well hives are body's response to any external stimuli that irritates skin. The symptom you mention in query like coughing and itching is kind of medical emergency in case of hives. I would suggest you to immediately consult dermatologist or doctor for proper evaluation of the condition and treatment. Doctor may perform skin test and patch test to find extent of infection. Doctor can give adrenaline injection. For now take over the counter antihistamine drug like benadryl , give cold compresses to affected area several times and apply cream containing steroids .
