What Causes High Platelet Count During 4th Stage Of Skin Cancer?

Hi My mom-in-law has got skin cancer stage 4 which was diganosed on october 2011. Since then, she undergone surgery (lymph node) and now she is OK as she is taking ayurveda medicine from near Mukkali, kerala. We used to take routine blood test once in a month. For this motnh, we noticed that she had got high mean platelet volume (12.1% [normal range :5-7] however heamoglobin, RBC count, WBC count are within normal range. Could you please explain the reason behind high mean platelet volume and also whether it affects any other area. Thanks

Hello

Her elevated platelet volume, if her total platelet count is in the normal range, is nothing worrisome. Since the rest of her CBC is also normal, the platelet volume number is what we call clinically insignificant--of no importance at all
