What Causes High Cholesterol Level?

Since June 17, 2016, when I got out of Upstate Hospital for testing for mini strokes, they diagnosed aura-migraine headaches. As the Doctor prescribed Plavix, I have been obedient to take it every day, with total changing my diet to eat only chicken, turkey, or fish with a plant based diet; no red meat, pork, lamb, egg yolks, fried foods, milk or cheese. I try to stay away from pasta & sugar products, as it causes wicked heatburn. I get my protein from grain beans, such as lentils, black beans, all other grains. oatmeal, barley, rice, potatoes, yams, greens, & Almond milk. I try to eat fresh vegetables & fruits...all the foods that God created for us, as he created this body, he knows best. I try to stay away from boxed & canned or processed foods, because I don t know what the producer puts into the food, such as preservatives, hormones or other chemical additives. I went to my family doctor last Thursday for blood checked for cholesterol, excited that because of this diet & walking excersize that I have been doing, I would have a good report about my cholesterol being lower & instead I received a bad report, that it had gone up. What did I do wrong...might there be a problem with my liver?

OB and GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Factors that can increase your risk of bad cholesterol include:
Poor diet. Eating saturated fat, found in animal products, and trans fats, found in some commercially baked cookies and crackers and microwave popcorn, can raise your cholesterol level.

Obesity, Lack of exercise, Smoking, Age, Diabetes. To control your cholesterol levels you need to take a proper diet which will be fat-free.

Need to run for at least 20 minutes morning and 20 minutes in the evening especially after meals. Apart from that, I suggest you take cholesterol-lowering drugs as Statins (Rosovas 20 mg once in a day).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Naira Jahangir, OB and GYN Specialist
