What Causes High Blood Sugar Levels Even When Empty Stomach?

my brother is type 2 diabetic...sounds drunk on the phone...told me he took insulin this am but no breakfast I had him check his blood sugar and he told me his sugar level was 233. he .just took 18 units of insulin... why would the sugar level be so high with no food in his system for 6 hours

This is possible, because our body has sugar reservoir in liver in the form of glycogen and it will get gradually converted in to glucose to meet the body's glucose need even at fasting level . so even if we don't take food, our blood will get a constant supply of sugar until glycogen stores get depleted. But at the same time if we don't have an adequate supply of insulin to metabolise this sugar ( as in diabetes) it will result in elevated blood sugar.
