What Causes High Blood Pressure?

my mother in law is suddenly having high bp issues. she is also having weakness in her leg(s). She is approx 57 about 5' 5" and weighs approx 175. She has never had problems with bp before. However, the last few days, it has been 167/101 a few minutes ago it was 176/105. I am really concerned that she may have a blockage or blood clot. The bp seems higher when she is sitting v/s standing which would make blood flow to her legs easier for the heart. she recently had lab work done and we are awaiting the results.

hello,
Blood pressure is a age related change, it's not indicative of blockages. However, presence of high bp put one at risk of blockages. I guess she doesn't have Chest pain.
She should have a healthy lifestyle like avoiding fatty, oily and high calorie diet. Have low salt diet and monitor blood pressure regularly thrice a day for one week then once or twice a week. If bp is persistently more than 140/90 mmhg, then she should be on medicines like telmisartan or amlodipine. Regular exercises like brisk walking, jogging according your capacity atleast 30 min a day and 5 days a week. Lots of green leafy vegetables, fruits, fish once or twice a week, avoid meat. There shouldn't abdominal fat deposition or obesity. Get her ecg, lipid profile and sugars tested once..
