What Causes High Blood Pressure Levels?

My wife has high blood pressure and takes mavik twice a day. This morning had to take her to ER and her pressure was 219/130. Do not know why her pressure was so high. Never has been that high before. She usually takes good care of her blood pressure.

Welcome to healthcaremagic,
219/130 is very high and uncontrolled blood pressure. If her blood pressure was also high during the previous check ups, then her dose needs to be increased or an additional anti-hypertensive medication will be indicated. Kindly ask you physician for the prescription.

Normal blood pressure for adults is less than 140 over 90.
In order to control blood pressure follow the given below advice:
1. Regular exercise such as brisk walking for at least 30 minutes per day
2. Consume a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and low fat dairy products.
3. Reduce salt intake to less than 5 grams per day (1 teaspoon is approximately 5 grams)
4. Take your medications regularly and get your blood pressure checked at least once a month.
Hope that answers you question.
Regards, Dr.Imaad
