Hi,
Though you may not have any heart burn, difficulty swallowing,
bloating and excess salivation are all possible symptoms of GERD (
gastroesophageal reflux disease. Burning discomfort does not necessarily occur, some persons have a cough only.
You can try a course of
reflux medication and see if this helps. It can take 5 to 7 days, in some cases for the medication to have an effect, that is Nexium,
Prilosec,
Prevacid, Pepcid, and Zantac. Diet changes that are used with reflux, may also help like:
(1) reducing portion sizes- use small frequent meals instead of large meals
(2) reduce the use of citrus, fatty, spicy foods
(3) reduce caffeine, mint, chocolate, tomatoes
I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
