What Causes Herpes Around The Eyes?

Hey well it has been like 2 years that I had this infection around my eye I was about 14 at the time and I had like little balls around it so I went to the doctor and he said I have herpes but I never had sex or have done any sexual contact with anyone. Can this really be herpes?

Hi,
The virus that causes herpes can be divided into two types: HSV-1 and HSV-2 (standing for Herpes Simplex Virus). The first one is usually the cause of cold sores and eyelid/eye lesions, while the second one is usually the cause of genital lesions (please do use the word "usually", as there can be exceptions).

So in case of an infection around the eye due to herpes, this doesn't mean that it was caused by sexual contact, as it's expected to be due to the type 1. In case you have a recurrence of the episode that you just described, I would suggest you to seek medical attention with an Ophthalmologist. Otherwise, no treatment is needed in a healthy patient who only presented it one time.
