What Causes Heavy Menstrual Bleeding And Severe Abdominal Cramps?

I have had this Mirena (my 3rd) for a year and never have any menstrual bleeds. I am 53 and menopausal and I suddenly had an intense and heavy bright red bleed for 24 hours with huge clots. I have severe cramps and headache but bleeding is easing off now. Should I go to hospital because it may have moved or will it settle down now the bleeding has eased?

Hi I think you should consult a gynecologist for complete examination. Get a ultrasound done to see endometrial thickness. If it is more than 4 mm, you may need endometrial biopsy to rule out any endometrial pathology. Hope it helps.
