What Causes Heavy Eyes After Sleep With Heavy Head And Mouth Dryness?

For the last couple of weeks, waking up has become next to impossible. I wake up with very heavy eyes even after getting 8 hours of sleep, plus my mouth stays dry. I have a habit of drinking a glass of water as soon as I get up but that doesn t help me any more. Through out the day I feel a heavy Head and heavy eyes. I haven tnoticed any other issues.

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern!

Your symptoms seem to be related to a metabolic disorder (chronic anemia, thyroid gland dysfunction, adrenal gland dysfunction, low blood pressure, etc.).

A sleep disorder (like sleep apnea), could also be the cause of this clinical situation.

I recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical examination and some blood lab tests:

1) complete blood count
2) PCR, sedimentation rate
3) kidney and liver function tests
4) thyroid gland hormone levels
5) cortisol plasma levels
6) blood electrolytes.

If all the above tests result normal (and a metabolic cause ruled out), I would advise consulting with a neurologist and performing a polysomnography, to exclude a possible sleeping disorder.

I would also recommend regulating your sleeping hygiene , sleeping every night in the same hour and avoiding stressful physical or emotional activity before sleep.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best regards,

Dr. Aida
