What Causes Heaviness In My Chest And Palpitations?

Hi, I have a heaviness in my chest, mostly whn lying down but sometimes when sitting. Yesterday I had a fluttering sensation as if my heart was racing. I also have a dry cough. If I yawn the heaviness appears to go. I am 45, 5ft 7 inches and 21 3/4 stone.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

I would explain that your symptoms could be related to a lung disorder. Anyway, I recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and some tests:

- a resting ECG and cardiac ultrasound
- a chest X-ray study
- complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation
- blood electrolytes.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
