What Causes Heartburn, Wheezing And Cough While Treating Acute Pharyngitis?

I am 23 years old female. I was sick for about 2 weeks with acute pharyngitis while backpacking in Southeast Asia. I didn t have much appetite during this time but started to feel an empty hollow feeling in stomach that did not resolve if I ate or not. That resolved after finishing antibiotics and taking medication. Now I have been having heartburn for about 10 days now, lump in throat, wheezing and cough. I have seen a couple doctors here. They checked my heart and said it was normal. They said that my symptoms are from GERD and gave me Omezaprole, anti-flatulent, and gaviscon liquid which I have been taking for 6 days now. I haven t had much appetite but generally my symptoms are worst in the nighttime and it has caused me to have anxiety and trouble sleeping. I have been feeling generally tired and lacking energy to go out and do things. I don t feel the medication has resolved my symptoms. I feel as though I have been obsessing/overthinking about this and maybe it is causing me to have more anxiety/maybe make it worse. I have also been experiencing some joint pain in my face muscles (jaw, ear, sometimes stiffness in neck or back as well) which I am not sure if it is related. I have a mouth guard for teeth grinding which has caused me pain in the past which I haven t been wearing consistently. I think I am generally pretty healthy and haven t had these types of symptoms before.

Hi,

After careful analysis of your history I have personally reached to a conclusion that it is the case of Nervous Dyspepsis and GERD. My findings are based on various assumptions like:

Wearing a night gaurd for grinding. This is often seen in people in stress i.e., they grind teeth at night. This grinding stretches jaw muscles causing fatigue and pain.

Second is your pain at night or symptoms that is due to acid reflux which is a typical feature of GERD when patient lies down. Third is your apprehensions in itself which is case of anxiety related symptoms of breathing difficulty often observed in stress or anxious patients.
You don't worry get these medications and try for 15 days. Tablet Librax OD before sleeping. Tablet Lansoperazole OD in mornings.

Preventive measures: Avoid taking citrus fruits or reduce intake. Avoid taking coffee, drinks, coke. Use fiber rich diet. Take milk with food.Take glass of plain water in early mornings before taking breakfast.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
