Hello. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
These episodes can have some origins. A good news and a good thing to know is that these symptoms are not coming from
ischemia of the heart. A lot of people tend to have
increased heart rate when they engage in physical activity or are undergoing under a lot of stress. If these are episodes that you can feel your heartbeat at one moment and have accompanying
shortness of breath, then probably we have to deal with
extrasystoles (premature ventricular contractions), which, when happen some times a day, are totally benign and can happen to anybody. On the other hand, if these are some kind of bouts of supraventricular arrhythmias, then we should seek other diagnoses that can cause these as a secondary effect. Before jumping to the conclusion, and saying that this is nothing to worry about, I would recommend you to run the thyroid function tests: TSH, fT3, fT4. If any of these parameters are abnormal, you should consult an
endocrinologist, and treatment should be installed.
I hope this answers your query. Take care.
Kind regards,
Dr. Meriton
