What Causes Heart Palpitations After Taking Mononessa Pill?

I have been on Orthocyclen birth control for almost 20 years. For the last two years, they ve given me Mononessa. I ve noticed my heart fluttering more and I m having palpatations. I have mitral valve prolapse also, but I was wondering if the Mononessa could cause that.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have a history of mitral valve prolapse, birth control pills can trigger the symptoms of any cardiovascular disease. You can discuss with your gynecology & take other devices of birth control that suits you better.

Mononessa ills that you are taking can cause side effects like sudden slurring of speech, dizziness, slow or fast heart beat, troubled breathing etc. Since you have Mitral valve prolapse & are now having palpitations it is better to stop taking the pill, inform your treating doctor & get an urgent cardiac check up done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
