Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have sudden hearing loss in my right ear to the point of almost being deaf in that ear. I also have a very sore neck that hurts when I move it from side to side, touch my chin to my chest, or look up. I ve been sleeping with a heating pad on my neck and trying to be careful with it, but I m worried as my children have had meningitis and the neck pain was part of it.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Hearing loss can be due totrauma to ear drum.or the middle ear inection / infkammation causing disturbance of boney conduction /nurogenic .. due to compression or damage of nerve suply. Looking at severe neck pain (which does not seem to be from meningitis-where neck rigidity is also accompanied by fever &vomiting ).....the cause your case seems to be to to cervical spondylitis/disc problem. Simple pain medicine like ibuprofen &rest /hot or cold compresses would give some relief... but xray/CT scan or MRI would pin point the cause.. This can be followed by specific management ( Anti inflammatory drugs, steroid(in oral ,injectable or local form), calcium &vitamin D /physiotherapy/surgery are the things mostly preffered.) Please consult an orthopedic doctor. Thanks. Thankz.
