What Causes Headache While Suffering From Cold And Cough?

I ve had a cold and cough with phlegm for almost 2 weeks with a bad on & off headache so I went to urgent care. The P/A did a blood test and chest x-ray to rule out pneumonia and decided I probably had bronchitis instead and prescribed a antibiotic (Zpak), but also noted that my blood pressure was very high (210/100+) and took it 3 times to be sure it was correct, gave me a pill to bring it down to 196/102 which is still too high. That is very unusual for me because I never have high blood pressure, in fact it is sometimes low. After 6 days my cough is almost gone but I still have a headache which actually feels like a sinus headache but taking my usual sinus pain pills have not helped much. What do you think? I think I might have a sinus infection also because that is what it feels like.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,thanks for using healthcare magic

Illness can cause an increase in blood pressure and the decongestant in allergy or cold meds, can also increase blood pressure as well.

You may consider using the medication as prescribed to control the blood pressure while you are ill and then repeat the blood pressure when you are well.
The repeat blood pressure would need to be done 3 days off of medication but would only be done if the blood pressure is consistently low or normal.

If the blood pressure is high then the doctor may not want to stop the medication

I hope this helps
