What Causes Headache When Diagnosed With Sleep Apnea?
I have been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and due to insurance am having to wait for my cpap machine. I am experiencing difficulty getting to sleep, not restful sleep when I do sleep, fatigue and drowsiness during the day. In addition my speech is getting confused, my thinking is not clear and I have headaches all the time. Is this all consistent with untreated sleep apnea? Does this necessitate seeing a doctor again? I ve been Tod it may take 30 to 45 more days to get the cpap machine.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Certainly, the condition of severe apnea could be the major contributing cause for many of the symptoms you mention which have to do with EXCESSIVE DAYTIME SLEEPINESS and all of the other things that go along with a person who is overstretched with fatigue and somnolence such as poor concentration, slurred speech, and a level of disorientation or confusion. However, other things such as hormonal imbalances or inflammatory conditions within the body based on either infections or autoimmune processes could also result in these symptoms. If you see another doctor then, my suggestion is that you look up either a sleep specialist or possibly a neurologist to help suggest some stop gap measures until the CPAP machine is available.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
