Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Headache And Nausea While Suffering From An Umbilical Hernia?
I have an umbilical hernia I am schedule for surgery on December 19. This week I have experienced irregular bowel movements (one in past 3 days). Normally 2 times a day minimum. During this time I have been experiencing severe headaches and nausea. Could it be my hernia causing this?
I understand your concern and would explain that headache is not related to bowel movements. You should know that irregular bowel movements are quite normal during umbilical hernia, because the food transit is temporary blocked in the part of the gut in this region.
The headache and nausea can be related to an electrolyte imbalance or high blood pressure. I recommend you to closely monitor your blood pressure values and perform some blood lab tests:
- complete blood count, sedimentation rate, PCR for inflammation - kidney and liver function tests - blood electrolytes
You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.
Hope to have been helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards, Dr. Aida
