What Causes Harp Pain When Coughing Or Sneezing?

I have been having a sharp pain in my right side when I cough or sneeze. It lasts on a few seconds and then goes away. I had gastric bypass surgery in June of 2014 and wasn't sure what may be causing this pain. It only occurs with a cough or sneeze. From what I read online, it doesn't seem to be gall bladder or appendix related but I'm not sure. I will be contacting my doctor in the morning but was trying to get an idea of what may be causing this pain.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the pain is related to pleuritis. This is inflammation of the pleura.

The pleura is the lining of the lung.

It can sometimes become inflamed or irritated. This causes pain on coughing. Pain can also occur sometimes on taking a deep breath or laughing.

It is treated with the use of anti inflammatory pain medication such as ibuprofen, cataflam. naproxen

I hope this helps
