What Causes Hard Lump On Knee Cap Post Knee Injury?
Hi , my son played football today and fell on his knee, the knee cap is very painful with a hard lump on it. He is complaining of pain all around the knee area and can barely walk. He has an important football match tomorrow and wants to play on it, I m worried he will cause more damage. Have you any ideas what the injury could be.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Pain and lump over knee joint after an episode of trauma to knee joint can be due to injury to some soft in the knee joint. Pain in knee joint and inability to walk is usually seen in teat or rupture of ligaments and tnedons around knee joint. A MRI needs to be done to look for any structural damage done in the form tear, rupture or any other damage to the soft tissue structurs knee joint. Physical activity will increase the pain over knee joint so it should be avoided. I suggest you to consult the nearest health center for quick clinical assessment and imaging study. In case any tear or rupture of tendons and ligaments is detected, surgical procedure may be required.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
