What Causes Hard Lump At Base Of Neck?

I have a hard lump which I thought was a bone right below my skull in my neck. I can shrink it slightly by wiggling it a little bit it comes back. My neck gets strained in that particular spot if I look down for too long. It does not feel like muscle. It s hard.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

This hard lump could be cystic swelling or benign tumour but it requires visual inspection at the site by the doctor for at least once.

After the certain diagnosis and if it is painful then you can go for surgical excision as per surgeon's advice under local anesthesia.

If it is not painful or doesn't affect daily activities then you can wait and watch for some days.

After excision, the tissue will be sent for histo pathological examination as a part of routine procedure.

Consult general surgeon for clinical examination of the lump.

Regards,
