What Causes Hallucinations And Disorientation Upon Intake Of Hydroxyzine Pamoate?

I was prescribed Hydroxyzine Pamoate 50 mg to take with Hydrocodone 5.0/325 to manage pain upon release from hospital after broken femur repaired with a rod. I found that even with only 25mg of Hydroxyzine I would suffer hallucinations, confusion, and disorientation...waking up in a sweat and having no idea where I was or if my surroundings were real. It was my understanding that the Hydroxyzine Pamoate was prescribed because I was suffering muscle spasms while still in the hospital. Is this common? What s another option? I don t ever want to feel that way again!

Hi,

Your symptoms seem to be drug induced as these are one of the most common side effects picture related to both these. You can stop current medications and replace them with OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen and even both at a time if pain is more severe as both belong to different categories of drugs. Using orphenidine along with acetaminophen can serve as muscle relaxant without causing these side effects. Dry heat and Topical capciasin gels can also be helpful.
