Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For a while now I have been scratching the inside of my cheek with my teeth. I don t know why I picked up the habit but now I can t stop because it s uncomfortable. It hurts from being sore and I really want to stop doing it. Why could I be doing this?
As per your complain the cheek biting is a malpractice habit seem commonly in kids but can be seen in adults and is commonly associated with Stress and many other emotional and psychological conditions..
It can cause trauma to the cheek mucosa and can cause laceration, ulcers and excessive keratin formation known as Frictional Keratosis and at times can also cause Leukoplakia..
I would suggest you to keep your self engaged in work and other recreational activities of your choice to avoid cheek biting..
You can chew sugar free chewing gums to avoid chewing the cheek..
Try to reduce stress and other emotional blockages. For this you can do meditation and yoga..
If nothing is working you can use mouth guards by getting fabricated by a dentist which can help in prevention of cheek bite..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
