What Causes Gum Sensitivity Post Molar Tooth Extraction?

Hello, I had a very large molar surgically extracted two weeks ago - last one on the upper left. The dentist had his work cut out for him and was amazed with the size of it. I was given one week of antibiotics. All seems pretty good but the gum area around the area is still sensitive, especially at the back. The crater in the middle feels to be full of very soft tissue. My questions.
1. How long is the sensitivity expected to last?
2. Will the soft tissue in the center eventually be replaced with firm material like the rest of the gums?
3. If the soft tissue is replaced by firmer material how long does this usually take?

Thanks
Cheers

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain when a traumatic extraction is carried out, it takes comparatively longer time as compared to a regular extraction to heal as well as for the pain and sensitivity to subside..

When a traumatic extraction is done the surrounding soft tissues which are gums gets inflamed due to injury by the extraction instruments.
The more the injury the more is the inflammation and therefore more time is needed for healing..

As per your question it seems that healing is progressive and initially the crator or extraction socket is filled with soft tissue which slowly keeps on remodelling and takes the anatomy of the normal jaw with bone below and covered with gums.

As per your queries it can take about a week more for the sensitivity to subside

It can take around 5 to 6 months for the bone to form and the area of extraction can come under normal anatomy..

Just maintain a good oral hygiene for a faster and better healing..

Hope your query is solved..

Thanks and regards..
