What Causes Gastrointestional Issues After Gallbladder Surgery?

Hi, I am a 44 yr old woman with lupus and raynaud's disease. I was just told today that I need to have my gallbladder removed. I also suffer from many gastrointestional issues, reflux, gurd, hiatus hernia, ibs... does this surgery put me at a higher risk? Any suggestions for pre-op and post-op? Im very nervous.

Gastroenterologist 's  Response
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM). If gallbladder has become symptomatic then it has to be removed. However be sure whether the symptoms are caused by gallblader or not for examaple get an endoscopy and ultrasound abdomen or may be a HIDA scan to clear that. Not removal of gallbladder will not put you at higher risk if it is the culprit.
I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
