What Causes Frequent Urination And Urine Leakage When I Sneeze?

I think I have a protracted (?) bladder?? Recent symptoms: urgency to urinate every 30 mins. , urine leakage more severe (not just a laugh or cough or sneeze causes this)..it has been a gradual increase for 3 - 4 months, but now out of control! From sitting or riding in a car...as soon I stand up I have leakage and urgency. Never had this issue before. Concerned about kidney or bladder disease. I had a urine test for infections & culture with no positive results of an infection? Should I see a urologist or my OB/GYN for a further pelvic exam? Thank you!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* The severe amount of incontinence must have underlying cause of neurologic, muscular or other origin.
* I recommend to undertake ultrasound, cystoscopy, uroflowmetry evaluation with a consultant urologist for best possible evaluation and guidelines.

Regards.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It sounds to me like urinry incontinence
Urinary incontinence is common along women after 50 and usually is caused by urinary infections or weakened pelvic floor. This is also a common and often embarrassing problem. If overreactive or incontinent bladder affects your daily activities, don't hesitate to see your doctor. For most people, simple lifestyle changes or medical treatment can ease discomfort. It is treated with specific medications, pelvic floor muscles exercises, electric stimulation of bihevioral treatment and in most cases this is adequate for incontinence control. If Cystitisis a cause as an bacterial infection then it must be treated with antibiotics..Surgical options are reserved for severe and intractable cases

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
