Hi,
Your symptoms are pointing towards some problem in bladder. This could be either some obstruction to urine flow with increased residual urine (increased amount of urine stagnating in bladder after passing urine). Normally bladder empties completely with no significant residual urine.
Another reason could be some problem with the functioning of bladder due to disturbance to its
nerve supply e.g. spine problems.
I would like to know some more details:
Do you have any pain while passing urine?
Do you have history of trauma to spine?
Do you have constipation?
Did you ever pass stone, blood or pus in urine?
Did you undergo any
urinary catheterization (passage of tube to pass urine) in the past?
Please get an ultrasonogram of kidneys,
ureter (the tube connecting kidney to bladder), bladder,
prostate (in case of males; sorry, you haven't mentioned your sex) and post-void residual urine. This can tell us about any swelling in kidneys/ureter and problems with bladder. Another important test is uroflowmetry, in which the apparatus will assess the rate of urine flow and pattern of urine flow and point towards any problem with bladder or its outlet.
Other routine tests include urine microscopy (to look for urine infection etc.) and
serum creatinine (to assess kidney function).
I am available to guide you through your check-ups and further management. Please mention your age, sex, associated medical conditions in addition to the above mentioned details when you get back to me.
Wish you a quick recovery and good health,
Dr. Raguram.
