What Causes Frequent Urination And Pus Cells In Urine?
Sir my father went to urinate last night around 4 to 5 tymes. Normally he doesnt go so frequently. We had a urine test done and the count of puss cells is 200 - 250 /HPF. He is not sufferimg from any kind of disease till date except that he takes medicine for high bp. What could be the reason fot such a high count? Today he had a bit of shivering followed by 101 fever immediately after he went to urinate in the afternoon..Kindly suggest what needs to be done in detail to bring down the puss cells and cause of infection in urine?
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Urine infection is very frequent in elderly persons, I don't know the age of your father but as the urine sample is full of puss cells I suggest he takes antibiotic therapy. An uroculture can make the type of infection, meantime talk with your physician to start Ciprofloxacin or Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim. An abdominal echo must be done to exclude any prostate or urinary bladder disease. Let him drink lots of water too.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
