Hello, My father, 58 years old, with no medical history, has been having burning and frequent urination at night following lifting of a very heavy object. He had blood tests done, all of which were normal except his total PSA was 35 ng/ml. He saw a urologist who diagnosed mildly enlarged prostate (32cc) with firm to hard areas. My father had ultrasound done which revealed no abnormality, except central prostatic nodular area seen (2.5cm) and difficulty in emptying his bladder. A urethrogram showed no abnormality. He was not put on any medication. His urologist planned a prostate biopsy for the coming week. However, after 10 days, he had his PSA repeated which dropped to 11 ng/ml. His urologist cancelled the prostate biopsy and put him on Cifran 500 mg for 1 week and Permixon for 1 month along with Contiflow at bedtime. After another week, his PSA showed to be 7 ngm/ml. His next appointment was scheduled for after 1 month, which is next week in December. He shall be repeating his PSA this weekend before the appointment. Also, my father is not having any urinating difficulty or burning. He is now passing urine freely without any of the previous symptoms. Kindly advise about this health issue please. Thank you very much.
