What Causes Frequent Bowel Movements?

90 year old woman: change in bowel habits. Instead of one bowel movement after breakfast, am experiencing two or three a day, some mucous on the toilet paper, and lifelong irritable bowel, with regular pain on my right side (appendectomy some years ago)

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Consume plenty of liquids in form of boiled water , lemon juice , coconut water , home made juices , organic tea , coffee , butter milk etc. Prefer soft , light , bland , vegan diet with fresh curd preferably. Avoid all types of oily , spicy , non veg , hot beverages , junk foods , dairy fat, milk, aerated drinks till recovery. Intake of PPI ( as omeprazole ) , antibiotics ( with metronidazole on pack ), Racecadrotil as an anti secretory agent , antispasmodic agent as dicyclomine, requires prescription with your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
