What Causes Frequent Bowel Movement In An Autistic Person?

My son is severely autistic and his GI has ordered senna to increase bowel movement frequency. From what I have learned about senna it works allegedly by causing irritation to the bowel? Is this really advisable....to cause irritation.....in a 20 year old who already has autism related behavioral issues?

Hello,

You can stop senna and include more solid foods in his diet. Nothing much to worry and it will settle in couple of days.

Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
