What Causes Frequent Boils?

Yes I have a big boil on the bottom of my stomach, I am a bigger person and I usually get them but this one is huge and so timder it hurts to touch. It wont pop and stays moist because its under my stomach. I noticed today the skin was peeled away some and it was leaking some clear fluid. Ive tried hot compress and soaking in Epsom salt. What else would you suggest I do and is the leaking indicating it will soon pop

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Frequent boils in different age groups are related with different causes. Are you on any medications currently? I suggest you get your blood sugar levels checked, fasting and postprandial, both. Along with this, complete blood count is also necessary. Sometimes, diabetes is the root cause for frequent boils. However, infectious cause can't be denied.

Regarding the boil, even though it's leaking, do not try to squeeze it on your own as it can increase further chances of infection, try to keep the area clean and wear loose clothes. If it hurts real bad, it is better to visit your doctor for the same after getting all the mentioned blood tests done. A careful examination is necessary so that appropriate antibiotics will be prescribed by your doctor depending on the cause if required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
