What Causes Foul Vaginal Odour After Using Tampon?

I just removed a lost tampon after I noticed a foul smell and discharge. I had to literally search it out and it finally came out. Really bad smell but got it out. Wondering now that? Should I be treated or I m I ok since its out? Does the smell mean infection

Hello,

I read your message and understood your medical issue.

Yes, foul vaginal odour is generally related to vaginal infection.

The use of tampons predispose for high risks for infection. If used, they must be changed very often and if you can avoid their use.

Blood is trapped for long time in cotton fibers of tampons and this creates a great media for some bacteria to grow. Your lost tampone was the perfect enviroment for developing an infection.

My advice is not to use tampons anymore and please contact a gynecologist that will treat your infection.

Maintain a good intimal hygeine and stay hydrated.

Doctor may prescribe you local antibiotics and other drugs.

Hope this was helpful for you
