What Causes Foul Smelling Breath When Suffering From Fever?

My grandson is staying with me while mom is out of town, he had a fever, headache, stomachache. He slept from 10:30 to 3:30. Very lethargic. I got him to drink some propel with electrolytes and put some Advil in it . I woke him up at 3:30 and bathed him off as he had wet his clothes with sweat, Fever is down and he at some grapes. His breath smelled like fish, not the normal sore throat smell. Should I just watch him or is there cause for concern?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello! A bacterial or viral infection in the mouth or throat, such as strep throat, can produce a foul mouth odor. In such a case, a child will usually complain of pain in the throat and will often have a fever. I suggest you to consult with doctor because he may need to take antibiotics. Hope I have answered your questions. Take care. Regards
