What Causes Foul Smell From Mouth After A Tonsillectomy?

Hi Dr- my son is 3 1/2 and had a tonsillectomy 5 days ago. He hasn t done all that bad with recovery but has had a fever (102 +) off and on since Thursday night ( day after surgery). The fever does respond to meds as I am giving him Tylenol and Advil every 3 hours. He has complained of ear pain ( as I was warned children do) but rarely about his throat ( no complaints). My question is that he has the most foul smell coming from his mouth. Should I be concerned with this due to that with the fever?

Hello dear, welcome to health care magic forum.
This indicate infection at the surgery site which needs antibiotics for a few days and good local hygiene. If oral antibiotics fails to control, we need admission and administration of paranteral antibiotics. Kindly see your doctor for detailed management. Meanwhile keep good oral hygiene.
Wishing for a faster cure. Thank you
