What Causes Fluttering Sensation In Adams Apple?

I keep feeling the sensation of a flutter or spasm around the adams apple area of my throat. Very low on my neck right in the center of my collar bone. Doesnt happen at any specific time but feels really funny and scary. I also sometime feel like a reverse rush of air coming up my throat instead of the normal inhale. Is this my heart and Im feeling it in my throat....or is it some weird muscle spasm or hormone related issue??

Hi,

The sensation of fluttering or spasm in the throat area can have various causes, including muscular or nerve issues, thyroid problems, or even psychological factors. Here are a few possible causes:
* Muscle spasms: Muscle spasms in the muscles surrounding the larynx (voice box) or in the esophagus can cause a fluttering sensation in the throat. This can happen due to stress, anxiety, or tension.
* Thyroid problems: The thyroid gland is located in the neck, just below Adam's apple, and produces hormones that regulate metabolism. If the thyroid gland becomes overactive (hyperthyroidism) or underactive (hypothyroidism), it can cause a variety of symptoms, including a sensation of fullness or tightness in the throat.
* Acid reflux: Acid reflux occurs when stomach acid flows back up into the esophagus and irritates the lining. This can cause a variety of symptoms, including heartburn, regurgitation, and a feeling of a lump in the throat. In some cases, acid reflux can also cause muscle spasms in the esophagus.
* Psychological factors: Anxiety, stress, and other psychological factors can cause a variety of physical symptoms, including a sensation of tightness or fluttering in the throat.

It's also possible that the sensation you're feeling is related to your heart, although this is less common. If you're experiencing any other symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, or palpitations, it's important to seek medical attention right away.

If the sensation is persistent or concerning, you should see your healthcare provider to get a proper diagnosis and treatment. They may order some tests such as a thyroid function test or an endoscopy to examine your throat and esophagus.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
