What Causes Fluid Drainage From An Excision Site?

I just had an excision done today and they put a rubberband drain in with the sutures. When I got home and took my shirt off without thinking, when I got home and pull the rubberband out a little. It s now oozing a little. Should I be concerned and how should I proceed?

General Surgeon 's  Response
After excision, doctor has placed the drain so that any blood or serous collection will come out, since if it remains inside, it may get infected and cause spread of inflammation. Hence it is good that the fluid is coming out Please do not remove the drain. It should only be removed by the doctor, once he is convinced that there is no more collection of fluid inside. You would have been advised to change the wound dressing daily with sterile precautions. May be doctor has also prescribed antibiotics. Please carry out all instructions as per his advise.
