What Causes Fluctuating BP Levels?

I am 55 years old, wife and mother. I have been taking blood pressure pills since 2005. Last Saturday, I went to my doctor to get my prescription refill, they took my blood pressure, and it read 185/102. They told me to go to emerg, but I didn t. I felt fine, took my BP again the next day, it was 145/96. This morning, it read the same, and tonight it was 133/96. Why do I get fluctuating readings? what should I do?

Hi

Greetings from Dr Divakara P
Thanks for posting your query.

There are many factors which affect the blood pressure , for example pain, giddiness, vomiting, anxiety or fear.

Apart from this , different timings of measurement of blood pressure can show different readings as the medication may not act throughout the day.

The last possibility is a wrong reading due to mistake in the machine or by the doctor.

I recommend you get a test called 24 hour ambulatory BP measurement which check your blood pressure throughout the day for 24 hours.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarification feel free to ask.
