What Causes Flaky, Dry And Red Skin On The Edges Of Top Lip?

I've had this dry, flakey. red skin at the edge of my top lip and above it that won't go away. I've had this problem for almost 2 months now. A chapstick that i would always use to make my chapped lips in the past wouldn't make it go away. So i tried petroleum jelly and that only made it worse. Now i've been using Burt's Bee's which has seemed to help the most but it still hasn't gone away. I thought it might be from a vitamin deficiency since the problem began to occur after I stopped eating red meat and pultery, so i've just recently started taking women's daily vitamin gummies.

So sorry to hear about your problem and will try my level best to resolve it..

As per your complain flaky, dry and red skin at the edge of the top lip can be due to causes like allergic reaction, fungal or bacterial infection, chapped lips, side effect of any skin cosmetic, nutritional deficiency etc..

I would suggest you to consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated and he can do a clinical examination and also microscopic examination of the flakes from the lips and will help in diagnosis an treatment can be done accordingly..

As of now you can apply a thick coat of petroleum jelly over the lip..
You can also apply bees wax containing lip balm..
Do cool compresses over the lip..
Drink plenty of water..
You can also take a multivitamin tablet daily..
Limit exposure to very dry and cold wind..

You can be advised a steroid ointments along with antibacterial or anti-fungal agents depending on the diagnosis if infection is ruled out..
