Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been on Loestrin 24 for about 8 months and have had no issues. Last month 11/22 instead of taking the 4 placebo pills I immediately started my next pack of pills to hold off my cycle due to vacation. About a week or so later I began having a brown flaky discharge. I discounted this as spotting for messing up my pill cycle but it has been continuous. I took my last active pill yesterday and started the placebo pills today but I have yet to start a real, fresh period. It still just a brown flaky discharge, no other symptoms. Should I be concerned or is my body just re-adjusting?
Since you have continuously used your contraceptive pills without the placebo pills, your cycles may be disturbed causing spotting or brown discharge. Your body will take time to readjust to the newer hormone levels and will regularize in the next few months. I would suggest you to wait for a few days for your cycles to resume. In case of any abdominal cramps, antispasmodics can be taken.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
