What Causes Fistula On The Vaginal Wall And Vaginal Discharge Of Grey Tissue?

I was diagnosed with stage 2b cervical cancer in Feb 6th 2013. I did chemo and radiation treatments. I m now cancer free but I m dealing with side effects from the high doses of radiation. A rectal vaginal fistula. As a result I now have a colostomy. Initially, this colostomy was supposed to be reversible but found out that it isn t because the tissue is so badly damaged that my doctor said if he were to try and reconnect that it would be much like sewing together wet tissue. But my problem is that my stoma basically died and came off. So now there is only a hole in my stomach through which I poop. And the fistula in my vaginal wall is still there. It hasn t healed. I m still having pain. I m passing large amounts of grey tissue from my vagina at least 3 times a week. And the odor that comes with the tissue smells like infection although I m told there isn t one. Noone can give me answers and it seems to me that they are not willing to run any tests. I have no insurance. Can someone please give me an answer? I need an explanation. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear Ma'am,
I would like to know since how many days are you passing the grey discharge? A long history and absence of any general signs like fever, chills, generalised weakness make infection unlikely. However, since you have undergone radiation there is a chance that you are passing devitalised tissue through the vagina. As you have a rectovaginal fistula, the tissue ie epithelium shedding from the leftover part of intestine may also be part of the discharge that you are passing. Hence the smell. If possible, you can get a microscopical examination and culture of the discharge.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Dr Geeta
