What Causes Fingernails That Are Thin,ridged,split & Crack Easily?

My fingernails have been thin, ridged, & split & crack very easily aprox. the past 4 years. I used gel nail polish for aprox. 6 months. This Sept. I removed it & keep them very short & use a buffing system instead. They look like I m deficient in something vital but have no idea what. I at very healthy.

Welcome to healthcare magic,
It could be due to biotin deficiency. You may take 5 mg biotin daily. It could also be due to excessive nail cosmetics specially the nail polish remover.
