What Causes Fever, Chills And Sinus Drainage After Placing A Spinal Stimulant?

my son had a spinal stimulant put in on Tues. he was running a fever this morning of 104.4. I took his temp a little while ago and it was 99.7 but he is having chills. he also has sinues drainage. he went to his primary care physician earlier (not the surgeon) and she said the antibotics he is taking should be help (it is Keflex). can he wait until tomorrow morning to go see the surgeon? he talked to the surgeon a little while ago and he said he can come in at 6 in the morning. as far as I can tell his incision sights look ok. he is 32 years old.

Hello,

Those symptoms do occur and are not uncommon after placing a spinal stimulant. But fever with chills is pointing towards infection. Hence, please use the antibiotic prescribed and meet the surgeon as soon as possible. There is no need to worry too much as incision site is normal and fever is reducing in intensity. My advice would be continue antibiotics and meet your surgeon as per the appointment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
