What Causes Feeble Voice And Memory Loss?

Hello Doctor, My father is 65 years old. In the last 2 years, his voice has suddenly become feeble and he seemed forgetful. His walking was also very slow. However, he did not have any fainting/tremors etc. About 6 months back, we saw a neurologist and we started using tables like Syncapone, Parkitidin, Torleva and pentocid. Ever since we started these, he keeps fainting/falling. The falls are not slipping or just falling down. He becomes unconscious. And then his head and hands keep shaking for no reason. But his memory seems fine now. He remembers everything, has opinions on politics, current affairs, cash etc. But we are scared to let him step out by himself. Please help us.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

i think your father has the symptoms of parkinsonism. Alteration in the autonomous nervous system lead to orthostatic (sitting to stand). Hypotension is the cause for fainting and falling. it is usual in Parkinson. If he wants to step out let him sit for few seconds and slowly stand up. Sudden stand up will lead to decrease in blood pressure and fainting and also Levotiracetam (Torlevo) causes hypotension. I think dose adjustment of Torlevo or other antiepileptic would be helpful.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hazan
