What Causes Fatigue, Breathlessness And Pain All Over The Body?

For over a year I have been experiencing increasing pain. It began only in my hands and feet. Now affects ankles, wrists, elbows, knees, shoulders. The pain is intermittent an moves from one area to another and back but is always bi-lateral. If its the wrists, its both wrists, etc. Also experiencing fatigue. Shortness of breath and overall feeling unwell. I am beginning to experience neuropathy in my left big toe, especially and sometimes slightly in feet an hands. Recently, I have been have low white blood cell counts in blood tests. I am a 58 year old female.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

This sounds more like a systemic disease with neurological symptoms than a neurological disease in itself. The doctor responsible to find the reason that would be either your general practitioner, or and internist. an endocrinologist could also be of help. Be careful if somebody diagnosis “neuropathic pain” too quickly without investigating further if there is an underlying disease, causing your symptoms.

You don’t mention if you are already taking pain medication. So until you see your doctor you can try to manage the pain with Ibuprofen 400mg for up to max. two weeks together with Gaviscon stomach protection. You can also add 25 mg of Diphenhydramine, because with pain your sleep patterns might be not as structured as they should be. Diphenhydramine will make you a bit sleepy, it has anti-allergic and very specific anti-inflammatory properties, too.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Alexander Davis, General & Family Physician
