What Causes Fatigue And Vomiting While On Medication For Alzheimer S Disease?

Thank you. Dr. Rynne I am inquiring re: sister-in-law. She was diagnosed two years ago w/ Alzheimer s. She s on medication. Her husband, my brother Buzz (73)has MS, although he had signs of remission. Now he gets agitated especially about Ouida Dale 72, his wife. Ouida would not consent to seeing a doctor yesterday. Symptoms were: extreme weakness, followed by bad nausea, but did not vomit. My brother said the symptoms were the same this morning. This is 3rd day for symptoms. She ate a little scrambled eggs and drank 1/2 c.coffee late morning today. She is sitting in den and symptoms have seemingly disappeared. My brother and wife live in TN. I am in Lake Charles, Louisiana (about 160 mi. from Houston. I am not a doctor, but have some common sense. I asked about her fluid intake...it had been hardly any. I immediately thought of dehydration. I think she forgets to drink liquids. Buzz, my brother, gets distracted and agitated so easily now. Ouida left an eye on the stove some time ago...no fire...just smoke. Ouida is very adamant about not going to see a doctor. I am wondering if they need someone to check on them regularly. Three married children live not too far away, but I believe that they do not inform their children about their health. That s just a gut feeling. I told Buzz that I was going to WebMD and would call him back if I had any information for him. Dr. Rynne, he and I are so close and he depends on me tremendously to answer questions and uses me as a sounding board. I have been a widow for 8 years and have not been to see them since my husband died. They are suppose to come to Lake Charles in Oct. for a visit with me. That is going to help me know what may be going on. If I have given more info than what you need or not enough of what you need, please excuse. I have a marvelous Internal Medicine physician who takes care of me like his mother, but I hesitate to call him because he is so busy and has other administrative positions with a hospital here in Lake Charles. That s why I turned to you. Thank you for any help and with your permission I will pass it on to my brother. Sincerely, Elsie Wamsley

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Consult a neurologist and get evaluated. These are quite common with neurological drugs used for Alzheimer’s.

If the side effects are severe and couldn’t be tolerated, alternatives can be tried after discussing with a neurologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
