What Causes Fainting Spells With Weakness And Urinary Incontinence?

Hi. At a restaurant last night I fainted for approximately 3 minutes and when I was conscious I stood up and uncontrollably urinated on myself. I have fainted a few times within the past year. I usually feel lightheaded, everything closing in and fading away, weakness, immobile like my body wants to shut down. It usually happens when I am sitting upright at the kitchen table and then try to make it to the couch to lay down until the symptoms go away to prevent from fainting. I don t always faint and I have had these symptoms for at least 6 years. I do suffer from anxiety and take Lorazepam daily. I also am a recent 2x breast cancer survivor. Lumpectomy 10 years ago and bilateral masecotomy in February 2016 and 2 emergency surgeries afterwards due to expander infection. I am 47 years old. Also, gluten intolerant. If you need more medical history/information please let me know. Please reply immediately! My husband and I are very concerned with last nights episode. Thank you!

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

The fainting episodes can be due to transient ischemia and are caused due to the decreased blood supply to the brain.

I suggest you consult a neurologist for this problem. Secondly, spontaneous urination can be due to an unstable bladder. I suggest you consult a urologist also for clinical assessment and thus management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
