Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
3 weeks ago I was experiencing extreme thirst and lethargy. Finally gave in and went to convient care. My blood sugar level was over 500. The previous day I had 2 pancakes for breakfast and the morning of I had a waffle. Also I drank a lot of OJ trying to quench my thirst. Convient Care sent me to the emergency room. where they hooked up an IV and gave me an insulin shot. As soon as my level fell below 400 I was dismissed and told to see my primary. I was put on 500 mg metformin 2x daily and5 mg Glipizid 1x daily. After seeing an endocrology nurse the metformin was raised to 1000 mg 2x daily and the Glipizide ws cut to 1/2 pill 2x daily. My main problem after 3 week is that about every other day my sugar dive to levels as low as 51 in the the afternoon, Otherwise the readings are all below 150

What Causes Extreme Thirst And Lethargy?
Ok, metformin doesn t get the sugar low and glipizide does. Lowering the glipizid is what is geenrally done if there are low sugar episodes.
